About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Inter Milan edged out Juventus in a thrilling Serie A encounter, securing a 3-2 victory at home. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showing moments of brilliance and lapses in concentration. Inter's win was somewhat expected given their strong form, but Juventus put up a formidable fight. The game started with a bang as Andrea Cambiaso (GAP +2.6%) opened the scoring for Inter Milan in the 17th minute. Juventus responded quickly with Cambiaso again finding the net in the 26th minute, leveling the score at 1-1. However, the turning point came in the 42nd minute when Juventus' Pierre Kalulu (GAP +4.1%) received a red card, leaving his team with ten men for the remainder of the match. Inter capitalized on the numerical advantage in the second half. Francesco Esposito came off the bench to score in the 76th minute, putting Inter ahead. Juventus showed resilience, with Manuel Locatelli (GAP +2.6%) equalizing in the 83rd minute. However, Inter's Piotr Zieliński (GAP +2.8%) sealed the victory with a last-minute goal in the 90th minute, ensuring all three points for the home side. Tactically, Inter Milan's manager made five changes, bringing in Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Ange-Yoan Bonny, Carlos Neves, Francesco Esposito, and Andy Diouf. Juventus also made five substitutions, introducing Juan Cabal, Loïs Openda, Emil Holm, Teun Koopmeiners, and Jeremie Boga. The changes by Inter proved decisive, especially with Esposito's crucial goal. In terms of individual performances, Yann Sommer (GAP +7.0%) was instrumental in goal for Inter, making several key saves to keep Juventus at bay. Lautaro Martínez (GAP +5.4%) also played a pivotal role in Inter's attacking setup, constantly pressuring the Juventus defense. This victory keeps Inter Milan in the hunt for the top spots in Serie A, maintaining their momentum with another crucial win. Juventus, on the other hand, will need to regroup and address their defensive frailties, especially after Kalulu's costly dismissal. The result leaves Juventus with work to do to climb the table and secure a European spot.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
