About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Villarreal delivered a commanding performance in their La Liga clash against Levante, securing a 5-1 victory that underscored their attacking prowess. This result was largely anticipated given Villarreal's superior form and league standing compared to Levante, who have struggled throughout the season. The match began with Villarreal asserting their dominance early on. Georges Mikautadze (GAP +0.5%) was instrumental, scoring twice, with his first goal coming in the 38th minute. His second, in the 68th minute, further extended Villarreal's lead. Alberto Moleiro (GAP +0.4%) added to the tally with a goal in the 62nd minute, showcasing his ability to find space and finish clinically. Levante managed to pull one back through Carlos Espí in the 51st minute, but it was merely a consolation as Villarreal continued to press forward. Tajon Buchanan, who came on as a substitute, scored in the 87th minute, and Nicolas Pépé (GAP +2.5%) capped off the scoring in the 90th minute, highlighting Villarreal's depth and attacking options. In terms of tactical adjustments, Villarreal's manager made full use of his substitutes, bringing in Thomas Partey, Tajon Buchanan, Sergi Cardona, Ayoze Pérez, and Willy Kambwala to maintain the team's intensity and manage the game effectively. Levante's head coach also made several changes, introducing Roger Brugué, Kareem Tunde, Iker Losada, Etta Eyong, and Ugo Raghouber, but these adjustments failed to turn the tide. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics further illustrate the standout performances, with Gerard Moreno (GAP +3.0%) and Alfonso Pedraza (GAP +2.2%) contributing significantly to Villarreal's control of the match. This victory solidifies Villarreal's position in the upper echelons of the La Liga table, boosting their confidence as they aim to secure a European spot. For Levante, the defeat is a setback, emphasizing the need for tactical reassessment as they look to avoid slipping further down the standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
