Celta Vigo secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Elche in their La Liga clash on Sunday, 3 May 2026. The win was a significant boost for Celta Vigo as they continue to push for a strong finish in the league. The match saw Celta Vigo take control early, with Hugo Álvarez (GAP +0.8%) opening the scoring in the 14th minute. Iago Aspas (GAP +0.1%) doubled their lead in the 30th minute, setting the tone for a dominant first half. Elche struggled to find their rhythm, and despite a late goal from André Silva (GAP -1.7%) in the 82nd minute, it was too little too late. Celta Vigo sealed the victory with a goal from substitute Borja Iglesias in the 85th minute, ensuring all three points stayed with the home side. Tactically, Celta Vigo's manager made effective use of his substitutes, with Borja Iglesias coming off the bench to make a decisive impact. The home team made five changes during the match, bringing in Jones El-Abdellaoui, Borja Iglesias, Williot Swedberg, Manu Fernández, and Óscar Mingueza. These changes helped maintain their momentum and secure the win. Elche's head coach also made five substitutions, introducing Martim Carvalho Neto, Josan, Héctor Fort, Víctor Chust, and Lucas Cepeda, but these adjustments failed to turn the tide in their favor. Elche's Gonzalo Villar (GAP -3.6%) and Tete Morente (GAP -4.9%) struggled to influence the game, contributing to their team's inability to mount a comeback. The result leaves Celta Vigo in a stronger position as they look to climb the La Liga table, while Elche will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities. This victory could serve as a catalyst for Celta Vigo as they aim to finish the season on a high note.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
