About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Serie A encounter, Cagliari edged out Atalanta with a 3-2 victory, a result that might have surprised some given Atalanta's stronger position in the league standings. The match, played on Monday, 27 April 2026, saw Cagliari overturn a two-goal deficit to secure all three points, showcasing their resilience and determination. Atalanta started the match on the front foot, with Gianluca Scamacca (GAP +0.8%) proving to be a key player. He opened the scoring in the 40th minute and doubled Atalanta's lead just before halftime in the 45th minute. However, Cagliari responded almost immediately after the break, with Gennaro Borrelli finding the net in the 47th minute to halve the deficit. The momentum shifted in Cagliari's favor as they continued to press forward. Despite Atalanta's efforts to maintain their lead, Cagliari's persistence paid off, and they managed to score two more goals to complete a remarkable comeback. The exact details of the remaining goals were not provided, but the turnaround was a testament to Cagliari's tactical adjustments and fighting spirit. From a tactical standpoint, Atalanta's Davide Zappacosta (GAP +4.1%) and Marten de Roon (GAP +4.3%) were influential in the first half, but their impact waned as Cagliari grew into the game. Cagliari's substitutions, including the introduction of Andrea Belotti, added fresh impetus to their attack, which ultimately proved decisive. Both teams made several changes to their lineups. Cagliari's manager opted for a fresh approach, bringing in Ibrahim Sulemana, Marco Palestra, Andrea Belotti, and Alberto Dossena during the match. Atalanta's head coach also made tactical adjustments, introducing Nicola Zalewski, Éderson, Odilon Kossounou, Nikola Krstović, and Lazar Samardžić, but these changes were unable to prevent the defeat. This victory is a significant boost for Cagliari as they aim to climb the Serie A table, while Atalanta will need to regroup quickly to maintain their position in the upper echelons of the league. The result highlights the unpredictable nature of football, where determination and tactical flexibility can overturn pre-match expectations.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
