About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Cagliari delivered a commanding performance in their Serie A clash against Hellas Verona, securing a 4-0 victory that was as emphatic as it was unexpected. Entering the match, Cagliari were not the outright favorites, but they capitalized on their opportunities and a key red card to dominate proceedings. The match's turning point came in the 51st minute when Hellas Verona's Amin Sarr (GAP -4.5%) received a red card, leaving his team with ten men. This disciplinary setback compounded Verona's struggles, as they were already trailing 1-0 after Luca Mazzitelli (GAP -1.0%) opened the scoring for Cagliari in the 36th minute. Mazzitelli's goal set the tone for a match where Cagliari's clinical finishing was on full display. Cagliari doubled their lead just before halftime through Semih Kılıçsoy, who capitalized on Verona's defensive lapses. The second half saw Cagliari continue to press their advantage, with Ibrahim Sulemana and Riyad Idrissi adding goals in the 84th and 90th minutes, respectively, to seal a comprehensive victory. Tactically, Cagliari's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, showing confidence in his squad's ability to execute the game plan effectively. In contrast, Hellas Verona's head coach opted for a few adjustments, bringing in players like Sandi Lovrić and Suat Serdar from the bench, but these changes were unable to alter the course of the game. Key performances from Cagliari's Sebastiano Luperto (GAP +1.2%) and Gianluca Gaetano (GAP +0.9%) were instrumental in maintaining defensive solidity and transitioning play effectively. Meanwhile, Elia Caprile (GAP +1.3%) in goal ensured a clean sheet with several crucial saves. This result propels Cagliari up the Serie A table, providing a significant boost to their momentum as they look to climb further in the standings. For Hellas Verona, this defeat highlights the need for tactical reassessment and discipline as they aim to recover in the upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
