About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A match, Como and Atalanta played out a goalless draw on Sunday, 1 February 2026. The result, while perhaps unexpected given Atalanta's higher standing in the league, reflected a game where both defenses held firm despite the numerical disadvantage faced by Atalanta. The match's pivotal moment came early when Atalanta's Honest Ahanor was shown a red card in the 8th minute, forcing the visitors to play with ten men for the majority of the game. Despite this setback, Atalanta managed to maintain their defensive shape and prevent Como from capitalizing on their numerical advantage. Como, who have been struggling in the lower half of the table, made several substitutions in an attempt to break the deadlock. Jayden Addai, Álvaro Morata, Jesús Rodríguez, Nicolas Kühn, and Sergi Roberto were all introduced from the bench, but none could find the decisive touch. Atalanta, on the other hand, brought on Odilon Kossounou, Nikola Krstović, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Raoul Bellanova to bolster their efforts, particularly in defense. Tactically, Como's inability to exploit their extra man was evident as they failed to create clear-cut chances. Atalanta's disciplined defensive performance, even with ten men, was commendable and highlighted their resilience. This draw leaves Como still searching for a win to climb out of the lower echelons of the Serie A table, while Atalanta will be pleased to have secured a point under challenging circumstances. The result maintains Atalanta's position in the upper half of the table, but they will need to address their disciplinary issues moving forward. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of Atalanta's defense, with fans praising their ability to hold on for a draw despite the early setback. Como, meanwhile, will need to reflect on their inability to convert possession into goals, a recurring issue in their recent matches.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
