About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Mallorca edged past Girona with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a decisive goal from Samú Costa (GAP -1.5%) just before halftime. This result was somewhat unexpected given Girona's home advantage and their recent form, which had seen them secure crucial points in their last few matches. The match's pivotal moment came in the 43rd minute when Samú Costa capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the only goal of the game. Girona's defense, led by Daley Blind (GAP -0.3%) and Alejandro Francés (GAP -3.5%), struggled to contain Mallorca's attacking threats, particularly in the first half. Tactically, Girona's manager made several changes during the match, bringing in Hugo Rincón, Thomas Lemar, Bryan Gil, and Christian Stuani from the bench in an attempt to inject fresh energy and creativity into the side. However, these changes were unable to break down a resolute Mallorca defense, marshaled effectively by Pablo Maffeo (GAP +1.2%) and Johan Mojica (GAP +0.4%). Mallorca's head coach also made strategic substitutions, introducing Javi Llabrés, David López, Zito Luvumbo, Antonio Sánchez, and Jan Virgili to maintain their slender lead and secure the three points. Azzedine Ounahi (GAP +3.6%) was a standout performer for Girona, showing flashes of brilliance in midfield, but ultimately, his efforts were not enough to alter the outcome. This victory propels Mallorca further up the La Liga table, providing them with a vital boost as the season approaches its climax. For Girona, the defeat is a setback in their quest for a higher finish, but with several games remaining, they still have opportunities to recover and improve their standing. Post-match reactions highlighted the significance of the win for Mallorca, with players and fans alike expressing satisfaction with the team's resilience and tactical discipline. Girona, meanwhile, will need to regroup and focus on their upcoming fixtures to regain momentum.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
