About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Preview for the game Girona vs Real Betis

Girona come into this Gameweek 33 clash in clearly better recent form, taking 8 points from their last five league matches with two wins and two draws in that run. Real Betis, by contrast, have collected only 3 points over the same span, drawing three and losing two, which underlines a dip in results. The Plus Minus model edges this fixture towards the hosts, giving Girona a 39% chance of victory, with a draw at 31% and an away win for Betis at 29%, suggesting a relatively balanced contest but with a slight home advantage. Head-to-head data points to a genuinely competitive matchup. The sides drew 1-1 in Seville on 23 November 2025, while Betis won 3-1 on their last league visit to Girona on 21 April 2025. Girona did, however, claim a 3-2 home win in March 2024, so recent meetings have been high scoring and tight. For the hosts, creativity from Azzedine Ounahi (GAP +4.0%) and the wide threat of Viktor Tsygankov (GAP +0.1%) could be key to turning territorial dominance into chances. Betis will look to build from the back through Marc Bartra (GAP +1.8%) and use the work rate and forward runs of Aitor Ruibal (GAP +1.9%) to stretch Girona’s defensive structure. Injuries and availability Real Betis have several fitness concerns. Isco Alarcón is listed as doubtful with an ankle injury and has been out since late November, with a return only expected around mid-April. Junior Firpo is also doubtful due to a thigh muscle problem picked up in early April, while Ángel Ortiz remains a doubt after a shoulder subluxation that has sidelined him since late March. Girona’s absentee list is longer. Goalkeeper Juan Carlos Martín is out indefinitely with a knee injury that has kept him sidelined since late August. Donny van de Beek is ruled out until around May with an Achilles tendon rupture, and Cristian Portu is expected to miss the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament tear. Abel Ruiz is set to be unavailable until mid-May with a hamstring injury, while Vladyslav Vanat faces a layoff until late June, also with a hamstring issue. Marc-André ter Stegen is out until roughly May with a hamstring tear. Daley Blind is considered doubtful due to a muscular overload reported in early April, and Ricard Artero is another doubt as he continues to work back from ankle surgery.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
