About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Real Betis delivered a commanding performance in their La Liga clash against Real Oviedo, securing a 3-0 victory at home. This result was largely anticipated given Betis' superior form and league standing compared to Oviedo. The match saw Betis dominate from the outset, with Cucho Hernández (GAP +2.3%) emerging as the standout performer by netting a brace. The game began with Betis asserting their dominance early on. Cucho Hernández opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Real Oviedo. The first half concluded with Abde (GAP -1.4%) doubling the lead just before the break, putting Betis in a comfortable position. In the second half, Hernández struck again in the 58th minute, effectively sealing the victory for Betis. His clinical finishing was a testament to his current form and was instrumental in Betis' attacking prowess throughout the match. Tactically, Real Betis maintained a high press and controlled possession, which stifled Oviedo's attempts to build any meaningful attacks. Diego Llorente (GAP +2.8%) was pivotal in defense, ensuring that Oviedo's forwards had little room to maneuver. Both teams made several substitutions, with Real Betis introducing Isco, Rodrigo Riquelme, Nelson Deossa, Chimy Ávila, and Marc Roca to maintain their momentum and manage player fatigue. Real Oviedo, on the other hand, brought in Lucas Ahijado, Kwasi Sibo, Thiago Borbas Silva, Santi Cazorla, and Haissem Hassan in an attempt to change the game's dynamics, but to no avail. This victory solidifies Real Betis' position in the upper echelons of the La Liga table, boosting their confidence as they aim for a strong finish to the season. For Real Oviedo, the defeat highlights the challenges they face in climbing the table, as they continue to struggle against higher-ranked opponents. Post-match reactions praised Cucho Hernández for his decisive contributions, with fans and analysts alike acknowledging his impact on the game. The result leaves Betis in a favorable position as they look to secure European competition for the next season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
