About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

RB Leipzig secured a commanding 3-0 victory over FC Heidenheim in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, 24 January 2026. The result was largely expected given Leipzig's superior form and squad depth, and they delivered a professional performance to claim all three points. The match remained goalless in the first half, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, the second half saw RB Leipzig assert their dominance. Ridle Baku (GAP +2.8%) broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, capitalizing on a lapse in Heidenheim's defense. Just six minutes later, Antonio Nusa (GAP +1.5%) doubled the lead, showcasing his composure in front of goal. David Raum (GAP +6.6%) sealed the victory in the 70th minute with a well-taken strike, highlighting his attacking prowess from the left flank. RB Leipzig's tactical setup was effective, with Peter Gulacsi (GAP +3.3%) providing a solid foundation at the back. The defensive pairing of Willi Orban (GAP +5.2%) and El Chadaille Bitshiabu ensured Heidenheim's forwards had little room to maneuver. In midfield, Xaver Schlager (GAP +2.9%) and Nicolas Seiwald (GAP +2.6%) controlled the tempo, allowing Leipzig to transition smoothly from defense to attack. For FC Heidenheim, the defeat highlighted their struggles against top-tier opposition. Benedikt Gimber (GAP -3.6%) and Mathias Honsak (GAP -6.3%) found it difficult to contain Leipzig's attacking threats, and the team failed to register a significant response after falling behind. Both teams made several changes during the match. FC Heidenheim's manager introduced Hennes Behrens, Luca Kerber, Julian Niehues, Stefan Schimmer, and Sirlord Conteh as substitutes, but these changes did little to alter the course of the game. RB Leipzig's head coach also rotated his squad, bringing on Tidiam Gomis, Benjamin Henrichs, Max Finkgräfe, Andrija Maksimović, and Ezechiel Banzuzi to maintain their dominance. This victory keeps RB Leipzig in a strong position in the Bundesliga standings, reinforcing their credentials as title contenders. Meanwhile, FC Heidenheim will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities to improve their league position in the coming weeks.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
