About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa played out a 1-1 draw at the City Ground in their Premier League clash on Sunday. The result was a fair reflection of the game, with both teams having their moments but neither able to claim all three points. This outcome was somewhat expected given both teams' mid-table positions and recent form. The match began with Aston Villa taking the lead in the 23rd minute through Murillo, who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Nottingham Forest. However, the home side responded well, and Neco Williams (GAP +1.4%) equalized in the 38th minute with a well-taken goal. The first half ended with both teams level, setting the stage for an intriguing second half. In terms of tactical adjustments, Nottingham Forest made no changes to their starting lineup from their previous match, indicating a desire for stability. Aston Villa, on the other hand, made three changes, bringing in Marco Bizot, Youri Tielemans (GAP +1.1%), and Victor Lindelof (GAP -0.1%), while Emiliano Martinez, Ezri Konsa, and Jadon Sancho were left out. The reasons for these changes were not explicitly stated, but they could be attributed to a mix of tactical rotation and addressing fitness concerns. Matty Cash (GAP +5.0%) was a standout performer for Aston Villa, contributing significantly to their defensive efforts and helping to maintain their structure against a persistent Nottingham Forest attack. Ola Aina (GAP +3.9%) also impressed for the home side, providing stability at the back and supporting forward movements. Post-match reactions highlighted the balanced nature of the contest. Both managers expressed satisfaction with their teams' performances, acknowledging the draw as a fair result. The point leaves Nottingham Forest in a stable mid-table position, while Aston Villa will be looking to build on this result to climb higher in the standings. Overall, the draw reflects the competitive nature of the Premier League, where even mid-table clashes can provide intense and closely fought encounters.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
