About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Bournemouth and Sunderland played out a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium in their Premier League clash on Saturday. The result was a fair reflection of a closely contested match, with both teams having their moments of dominance. Given the form of both sides, the draw was not entirely unexpected. The game started with Sunderland taking the lead in the 18th minute through Eliezer Mayenda. The forward capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the visitors ahead. Bournemouth responded in the second half, with Evanilson coming off the bench to score the equalizer in the 63rd minute. His introduction injected much-needed energy into the home side's attack. Bournemouth made two changes to their lineup from their previous match, with David Brooks (GAP -0.3%) and Marcus Tavernier (GAP -1.2%) coming into the starting eleven. Evanilson and Amine Adli were the ones to make way. Sunderland, on the other hand, made four changes, bringing in Granit Xhaka (GAP +1.7%), Lutsharel Geertruida (GAP -2.6%), Eliezer Mayenda, and Chemsdine Talbi (GAP +2.5%). These changes were likely tactical, as no specific injury or suspension reasons were confirmed. In terms of individual performances, Granit Xhaka stood out for Sunderland, contributing significantly to their midfield control. For Bournemouth, Evanilson's impact as a substitute was crucial, as his goal ensured the home side salvaged a point. The result leaves both teams in a similar position in the league table, with neither side making significant gains. Bournemouth will be looking to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures, while Sunderland will aim to convert their solid performances into wins to climb the table. Post-match reactions highlighted the competitive nature of the game, with both managers acknowledging the fair result. The draw reflects the balanced nature of the Premier League this season, where every point is hard-earned.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
