About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League match at Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth and Aston Villa played out a 1-1 draw. The result was largely in line with expectations, as both teams have shown similar form in recent weeks. Bournemouth, coming off a mixed run of results, managed to secure a point against an Aston Villa side that has been inconsistent on the road. The match began with Aston Villa taking the lead in the 22nd minute through Morgan Rogers (GAP +4.1%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the visitors ahead. Bournemouth responded in the second half with Rayan equalizing in the 55th minute, ensuring the home side shared the spoils. Tactically, both managers made notable changes to their lineups. Bournemouth made a single change, bringing in Rayan for Adam Smith. Aston Villa's head coach opted for a more significant reshuffle with four changes: Tyrone Mings (GAP +2.5%), Lucas Digne (GAP -0.4%), Ollie Watkins (GAP +3.0%), and Amadou Onana (GAP +0.2%) were introduced, replacing Tammy Abraham, Pau Torres, Ian Maatsen, and Lamare Bogarde. These changes seemed to be a strategic rotation, possibly influenced by fitness concerns and tactical adjustments. Key performances included Matty Cash (GAP +5.8%), who was instrumental in Villa's defensive efforts, and Emiliano Martinez (GAP +3.4%), whose saves were crucial in maintaining the draw. For Bournemouth, Đorđe Petrović (GAP +1.8%) was solid between the posts, ensuring Villa's lead was short-lived. Post-match reactions highlighted the balanced nature of the game, with both teams expressing satisfaction with the point gained. This draw leaves Bournemouth in a stable mid-table position, while Aston Villa continues to hover around the same area, needing more consistency to climb higher. Overall, the match was a fair reflection of both teams' current standings in the league, with neither side able to dominate proceedings entirely.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
