About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Arsenal secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Chelsea in their Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium, a result that was both hard-fought and significant in the context of the league standings. The match saw Arsenal take the lead through William Saliba (GAP +7.2%) in the 21st minute, capitalizing on a set-piece situation to head home the opener. Chelsea responded just before halftime with a goal from Piero Hincapié, leveling the score at 1-1. The second half was marked by Arsenal's tactical adjustments, which paid off when Jurrien Timber (GAP +5.9%) scored in the 66th minute, restoring the home side's lead. Timber's goal came from a well-executed team move, showcasing Arsenal's attacking prowess. The match took a decisive turn in the 70th minute when Chelsea's Pedro Neto (GAP +5.6%) received a red card, reducing the visitors to ten men and hampering their chances of mounting a comeback. In terms of lineup changes, Chelsea made two alterations from their previous match, bringing in Jorrel Hato and Mamadou Sarr, while Wesley Fofana and Malo Gusto were left out. The reasons for these changes were not specified in post-match reports. Arsenal, on the other hand, fielded an unchanged lineup, indicating confidence in their current squad setup. Key performances included Bukayo Saka (GAP +5.2%), who was instrumental in Arsenal's attacking plays, and Declan Rice (GAP +4.6%), who controlled the midfield with authority. Chelsea's Robert Sanchez (GAP +4.2%) made several crucial saves to keep his team in the contest, but ultimately, Arsenal's numerical advantage and tactical discipline saw them through. This victory propels Arsenal further up the league table, strengthening their position in the race for European qualification. For Chelsea, the defeat is a setback, highlighting the need for consistency as they aim to climb the standings. The result reflects Arsenal's growing momentum, having now secured back-to-back wins, while Chelsea must regroup and address their disciplinary issues to improve their form.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
