About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Manchester United edged past Everton with a narrow 1-0 victory. The match was decided by a solitary goal from substitute Benjamin Šeško in the 72nd minute, a result that aligns with pre-match expectations given Manchester United's superior league position and form. The game was largely a midfield battle, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. Everton, despite their home advantage, found it difficult to break down a well-organized Manchester United defense. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics highlight some key performances: Bryan Mbeumo (GAP +4.6%) and Amad Diallo (GAP +3.8%) were instrumental in Manchester United's attacking efforts, while Everton's Jordan Pickford (GAP +2.0%) made several crucial saves to keep his team in the game. Everton made three changes to their lineup, bringing in Michael Keane, Tim Iroegbunam, and Harrison Armstrong, while dropping Vitaliy Mykolenko, Jake O'Brien, and Tyrique George. These changes were partly enforced by injuries and suspensions, with Keane returning from a suspension. Manchester United made a single change, introducing Leny Yoro in place of Lisandro Martínez, who was doubtful due to a calf injury. The decisive moment came when Benjamin Šeško, who came off the bench, capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the only goal of the match. His introduction added a new dimension to United's attack, which had been stifled for much of the game. Post-match reactions from the Manchester United camp praised Šeško's impact, while Everton's focus was on regrouping and addressing their lack of cutting edge in front of goal. This result leaves Everton needing to find form quickly to avoid slipping further down the table, while Manchester United solidifies their position in the top four, maintaining pressure on the league leaders. Overall, the match underscored Manchester United's ability to grind out results even when not at their best, a trait that could prove crucial in the title race.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
