About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

West Ham United secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor in their Premier League clash on Saturday. The result was largely expected given West Ham's recent form and Burnley's struggles with injuries and squad rotation. The game started with West Ham taking control early on, and they capitalized on their dominance with a goal in the 13th minute from Crysencio Summerville (GAP -2.9%). Summerville's strike set the tone for the visitors, who continued to press Burnley. The second goal came in the 26th minute when Taty Castellanos (GAP +5.5%) doubled West Ham's lead, effectively putting the game out of reach for the home side. Burnley made three changes to their lineup compared to their previous match, bringing in Axel Disasi, Zian Flemming, and Hannibal Mejbri. These changes were likely influenced by injuries and international duty absences, as several key players were unavailable. West Ham, on the other hand, made two changes, with Callum Wilson and Mads Hermansen coming into the starting eleven. These adjustments seemed to bolster West Ham's performance, particularly in the attacking third. West Ham's tactical setup allowed them to exploit Burnley's defensive vulnerabilities, with Jarrod Bowen (GAP -0.1%) and Tomáš Souček (GAP +0.5%) playing pivotal roles in maintaining pressure and controlling the midfield. Burnley struggled to create significant chances, and their inability to break down West Ham's defense was evident throughout the match. This victory keeps West Ham in a strong position in the league, as they continue to push for a European spot. For Burnley, the defeat highlights the challenges they face, particularly with a depleted squad. They will need to regroup and find form quickly to avoid slipping further down the table. Post-match, the West Ham head coach praised his team's discipline and execution, while Burnley's manager acknowledged the need for improvement and resilience in upcoming fixtures. The result leaves Burnley with much to ponder as they look to bounce back in their next match.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
