About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at St James' Park, Brentford edged out Newcastle United with a 3-2 victory. This result was somewhat unexpected given Newcastle's recent form and home advantage, but Brentford's tactical execution and key performances turned the tide in their favor. The match began with Newcastle taking the lead in the 24th minute through Sven Botman (GAP -0.4%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse. However, Brentford responded swiftly, with Vitaly Janelt (GAP +1.0%) equalizing in the 37th minute. Just before halftime, Igor Thiago (GAP +2.7%) put Brentford ahead, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Newcastle made four changes to their lineup, bringing in Jacob Murphy, Sven Botman, Bruno Guimarães (GAP +4.3%), and Yoane Wissa, while Dan Burn, Anthony Gordon, Jacob Ramsey, and Anthony Elanga were left out. These changes seemed aimed at bolstering their attacking options, but the defensive frailties were evident. Brentford, on the other hand, made a single change, with Keane Lewis-Potter (GAP +2.7%) coming in for the suspended Kevin Schade. The second half saw Newcastle pushing for an equalizer, and they found it in the 79th minute through Bruno Guimarães, whose performance was a standout despite the loss. However, Brentford's resilience shone through as Dango Ouattara (GAP +2.3%) scored the decisive goal in the 85th minute, sealing the victory for the visitors. Caoimhín Kelleher (GAP +4.0%) was instrumental for Brentford, making several crucial saves to keep Newcastle at bay. His performance, along with the tactical discipline shown by Brentford, was pivotal in securing the three points. This victory propels Brentford further up the table, providing a significant boost to their campaign. For Newcastle, the defeat is a setback, but their attacking prowess remains a positive takeaway. The home team will need to address their defensive issues to improve their standing in the league. Overall, the match was a testament to Brentford's ability to perform under pressure and capitalize on their chances, while Newcastle will look to regroup and bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
