About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth stunned Liverpool with a 3-2 victory, a result that defied pre-match expectations. Liverpool, despite being favorites, were unable to capitalize on their chances, while Bournemouth took full advantage of their opportunities. The match began with Bournemouth taking the lead in the 26th minute through Evanilson (GAP +1.9%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse. Just seven minutes later, Álex Jiménez (GAP -2.0%) doubled the home side's advantage, leaving Liverpool with a mountain to climb. Liverpool managed to pull one back just before halftime, with Virgil van Dijk (GAP +3.0%) heading home to make it 2-1. The second half saw Liverpool pushing for an equalizer, which finally came in the 80th minute courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai (GAP +2.5%). However, Bournemouth had the last word, with Amine Adli (GAP +1.2%) scoring a dramatic winner in the 90th minute, sealing a memorable victory for the Cherries. Liverpool's lineup featured three changes from their previous match, with Mohamed Salah (GAP +3.2%), Joe Gomez (GAP +3.0%), and Alexis Mac Allister (GAP +3.2%) coming in for Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, and Hugo Ekitiké. These changes were likely tactical, as Liverpool sought to bolster their attacking options. Bournemouth made a single change, with Adam Smith (GAP +0.7%) replacing Marcus Tavernier, who was unavailable due to injury concerns. Florian Wirtz (GAP +5.8%) was a standout performer for Liverpool, showing creativity and flair, but it was not enough to secure a result. Alisson Becker (GAP +5.3%) also had a notable performance, making several crucial saves to keep Liverpool in the game. This result leaves Liverpool needing to reassess their strategy as they aim to maintain their position in the upper echelons of the Premier League table. Bournemouth, on the other hand, will be buoyed by this victory, which could serve as a catalyst for improved performances in the coming weeks.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
