Game Review
In a tightly contested Serie A clash, Genoa emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Sassuolo at home on Sunday, 12 April 2026. The match was marked by a dramatic flow and significant disciplinary issues, with both teams finishing with ten men on the field. The game started with Genoa taking an early lead through Ruslan Malinovskyi (GAP +0.3%), who found the net in the 18th minute. However, the first half ended on a contentious note as both Mikael Egill Ellertsson and Domenico Berardi (GAP +3.1%) received red cards just before the break, leaving both sides a player short. Sassuolo responded in the second half with Ismaël Koné (GAP +1.2%) equalizing in the 57th minute, showcasing his ability to capitalize on Genoa's defensive lapse. Despite this setback, Genoa managed to secure the win late in the game when substitute Caleb Ekuban scored in the 84th minute, ensuring all three points for the home side. Tactically, Genoa's manager made five changes during the match, bringing on Patrizio Masini, Sebastian Otoa, Caleb Ekuban, Aarón Martín, and Junior Messias. These substitutions, particularly Ekuban's introduction, proved pivotal in swinging the match back in Genoa's favor. Sassuolo also made five substitutions, including Cristian Volpato and Woyo Coulibaly, but they were unable to alter the outcome significantly. The result was somewhat unexpected given Sassuolo's recent form and their position in the league. However, Genoa's resilience and tactical adjustments paid off, allowing them to climb the Serie A table and gain momentum as the season approaches its climax. This victory is crucial for Genoa as they look to solidify their mid-table position, while Sassuolo will need to regroup quickly to maintain their push for a higher finish. The match highlighted the importance of discipline and strategic substitutions in determining the outcome of closely fought contests.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
