About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Serie A encounter, Genoa secured a 2-1 victory over Roma on Sunday, 8 March 2026. The result was somewhat unexpected given Roma's recent form and their position in the league, but Genoa's resilience and tactical execution were key to their success. The match began with both teams probing for weaknesses, but it wasn't until the second half that the game truly came alive. Junior Messias (GAP +1.3%) opened the scoring for Genoa in the 52nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Roma. Just three minutes later, Roma responded through Evan Ndicka (GAP +4.1%), who leveled the score with a well-taken goal. As the match progressed, Genoa's substitutions proved decisive. Vítor Oliveira, brought on as a substitute, scored the winning goal in the 80th minute, showcasing the depth and strategic acumen of the Genoa bench. Roma's lineup saw several changes, with Neil El Aynaoui, Jan Ziolkowski, Robinio Vaz, Daniele Ghilardi, and Bryan Cristante coming off the bench. However, these changes were unable to turn the tide in their favor. Genoa, on the other hand, made impactful substitutions with Vítor Oliveira, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Aarón Martín, and Lorenzo Colombo entering the fray. Key performances from Genoa's defense, particularly from Gianluca Mancini (GAP +5.5%) and Mile Svilar (GAP +5.1%), helped maintain their lead despite Roma's pressure. Kostas Tsimikas (GAP +3.4%) also had a notable performance, contributing to Genoa's solid defensive display. This victory propels Genoa further up the Serie A table, providing a significant boost to their campaign as they aim to secure a mid-table finish. For Roma, the defeat is a setback in their pursuit of European qualification, highlighting the need for consistency in their performances. Post-match reactions from both camps emphasized the competitive nature of the match, with Genoa's players expressing satisfaction with their tactical discipline and execution. Roma's camp, meanwhile, acknowledged the need to regroup and address the defensive lapses that cost them the game.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
