About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A clash, Napoli edged past Fiorentina with a 2-1 victory at home. This result was somewhat expected given Napoli's strong form leading into the match, having secured multiple wins in recent fixtures. Fiorentina, on the other hand, faced a challenging task against a well-organized Napoli side. The game started with Napoli taking an early lead through Antonio Vergara (GAP not available) in the 11th minute, setting the tone for the home side. Napoli continued to press and were rewarded shortly after the break when Miguel Gutiérrez (GAP +2.4%) doubled their advantage in the 49th minute. Fiorentina managed to pull one back through Manor Solomon (GAP not available) in the 57th minute, but it wasn't enough to alter the outcome. From a tactical standpoint, Napoli's lineup featured no changes from their previous match, indicating a stable selection strategy by the home team manager. Fiorentina also maintained their lineup from the last game, suggesting confidence in their current squad despite the defeat. Key performances included Stanislav Lobotka (GAP +4.5%), who was instrumental in midfield, and Giovanni Di Lorenzo (GAP +4.3%), who provided defensive solidity. Alex Meret (GAP +4.1%) also played a crucial role in goal, ensuring Napoli maintained their lead despite Fiorentina's attempts to equalize. The result sees Napoli solidify their position in the upper echelons of the Serie A table, continuing their pursuit of European qualification. Fiorentina, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities as they look to climb the standings in the coming weeks.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
