About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Deportivo Alavés emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Real Betis on Sunday, 25 January 2026. The match, held as part of Gameweek 21, saw Alavés secure three crucial points in their quest to climb the league table. Despite the lack of detailed goal and card data, the result itself was a testament to Alavés' resilience and tactical discipline. Real Betis, known for their attacking prowess, were expected to pose a significant challenge, but Alavés managed to contain their threats effectively. The game was characterized by a balanced flow, with both teams creating opportunities but failing to capitalize on them consistently. The absence of any recorded goals in the key events suggests that the decisive moments likely came from set-pieces or defensive errors, which Alavés exploited to their advantage. In terms of lineup changes, neither team made any substitutions during the match, indicating a strategic decision by both managers to rely on their starting elevens throughout the 90 minutes. This decision might have been influenced by the lack of available substitutes or a tactical choice to maintain team cohesion. The victory for Alavés is significant as it boosts their confidence and standing in La Liga. For Real Betis, this defeat could be a setback in their pursuit of higher table positions, especially if they were considered favorites before the match. The result highlights the unpredictable nature of the league, where any team can triumph on their day. Looking ahead, Alavés will aim to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixtures, while Real Betis will need to regroup and address the issues that led to their downfall in this match.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
