About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Real Betis secured a solid 2-0 victory over Villarreal in their La Liga clash on Saturday, 17 January 2026. The match, held at Betis' home ground, saw the hosts dominate proceedings, particularly after Villarreal were reduced to ten men following Santi Comesaña's (GAP +1.6%) red card in the 76th minute. This result was somewhat expected given Betis' recent form and home advantage. The game began with both teams probing for openings, but it was Real Betis who broke the deadlock in the 57th minute through Aitor Ruibal (GAP +0.3%). His goal came at a crucial time, giving Betis the momentum they needed to control the game. Villarreal struggled to respond effectively, and their task became even more challenging after Comesaña's dismissal. Pablo Fornals (GAP +0.6%) sealed the victory for Betis with a goal in the 83rd minute, capitalizing on Villarreal's defensive disarray. This goal underscored Fornals' influential performance, as he was pivotal in Betis' attacking play throughout the match. In terms of lineup changes, Real Betis made strategic substitutions, bringing on Rodrigo Riquelme, Ángel Ortiz, and Pablo García to maintain their advantage. Villarreal's head coach also made changes, introducing Nicolas Pépé, Ayoze Pérez, and Santiago Mouriño, but these adjustments failed to turn the tide. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics highlighted key performances, with Luiz Júnior (GAP +5.7%) standing out for Villarreal despite the defeat, while Alfonso Pedraza (GAP +4.1%) also made notable contributions. This victory strengthens Real Betis' position in the league, as they continue to build momentum with consistent performances. For Villarreal, this defeat is a setback, and they will need to regroup quickly to avoid slipping further down the table.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
