About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Real Sociedad secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Celta Vigo in their La Liga clash on Sunday, 25 January 2026. The match, held at Real Sociedad's home ground, saw the hosts dominate despite being reduced to ten men just before halftime. The game began with Real Sociedad asserting their dominance early on. Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 17th minute, setting the tone for the home side. However, the match took a dramatic turn when Duje Ćaleta-Car received a red card just before the break, leaving Real Sociedad to play the entire second half with ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Real Sociedad maintained their composure and tactical discipline. Celta Vigo managed to level the score in the 72nd minute through Borja Iglesias, who came off the bench to make an immediate impact. However, their joy was short-lived as Oyarzabal struck again in the 75th minute to restore Real Sociedad's lead. The home side's resilience was further rewarded when they sealed the victory with a third goal, showcasing their ability to capitalize on counter-attacks even when under pressure. The introduction of substitutes like Pablo Marín and Álvaro Odriozola helped Real Sociedad maintain their energy levels and defensive solidity. Celta Vigo's decision to bring on experienced players like Iago Aspas and Óscar Mingueza in the second half was an attempt to exploit their numerical advantage, but they struggled to break down a well-organized Real Sociedad defense. This result sees Real Sociedad continue their strong form in La Liga, while Celta Vigo will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities. The victory keeps Real Sociedad in the hunt for European qualification, while Celta Vigo remains in the mid-table, needing to find consistency to climb higher. Post-match reactions highlighted the tactical acumen of the Real Sociedad manager, who managed the game effectively despite the red card setback. The win was a testament to the team's depth and adaptability, crucial attributes as they navigate the remainder of the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
