About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Werder Bremen secured a solid 2-0 victory over FC Heidenheim in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The win was a testament to Bremen's growing form, as they managed to control the game and capitalize on key moments, ultimately securing all three points. The match was tightly contested in the first half, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, Werder Bremen broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Jovan Milosevic found the back of the net, giving the home side a crucial lead. The goal was a result of Bremen's persistent pressure and tactical discipline. As the game progressed, Werder Bremen continued to assert their dominance. In the 90th minute, Hennes Behrens doubled their advantage, sealing the victory with a well-taken goal. This late strike ensured Bremen's control over the match and highlighted their effective game management. From a tactical perspective, Werder Bremen's defense was particularly impressive, with Marco Friedl (GAP +2.9%) and Niklas Stark (GAP +1.8%) playing pivotal roles in maintaining a clean sheet. Their contributions were crucial in neutralizing Heidenheim's attacking threats, which were largely ineffective throughout the match. FC Heidenheim, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm. Players like Benedikt Gimber (GAP -5.4%) and Niklas Dorsch (GAP -5.5%) were unable to influence the game positively, reflecting the team's overall lack of cohesion and effectiveness on the day. In terms of lineup changes, Werder Bremen made several substitutions, bringing in Leonardo Bittencourt, Justin Njinmah, Julián Malatini, and Keke Topp to inject fresh energy into the squad. FC Heidenheim also rotated their lineup, introducing Marvin Pieringer, Mathias Honsak, Adrian Beck, Stefan Schimmer, and Leonidas Stergiou, but these changes failed to alter the course of the match. This victory propels Werder Bremen further up the Bundesliga table, enhancing their momentum as they continue to build on recent performances. For FC Heidenheim, the defeat serves as a reminder of the challenges they face in maintaining consistency and competitiveness in the league.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
