About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Everton delivered a commanding performance in their Premier League clash against Chelsea, securing a 3-0 victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium. This result was somewhat unexpected given Chelsea's recent form, but Everton capitalized on their opportunities and executed their game plan effectively. The match saw Everton take the lead in the 33rd minute through Beto (GAP -2.3%), who doubled his tally in the 62nd minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Iliman Ndiaye (GAP +3.2%) sealed the victory with a goal in the 76th minute, capping off a dominant display by the home side. Everton's defensive solidity was highlighted by standout performances from James Tarkowski (GAP +3.6%) and Jordan Pickford (GAP +3.1%), who ensured a clean sheet against a Chelsea side that struggled to find their rhythm. In terms of lineup changes, Everton made one adjustment from their previous match, with James Tarkowski coming in for Tim Iroegbunam. Chelsea, on the other hand, made three changes, introducing Pedro Neto (GAP +4.8%), Roméo Lavia, and Jorrel Hato, while Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, and Alejandro Garnacho were left out. The reasons for these changes were not specified in the available data. The tactical battle saw Everton's midfield, led by Idrissa Gueye (GAP +2.1%) and James Garner (GAP +2.1%), effectively disrupt Chelsea's attempts to control the game, allowing Everton to transition quickly and exploit spaces in Chelsea's defense. This victory propels Everton up the league table, providing a significant boost to their confidence as they look to finish the season strongly. For Chelsea, this defeat is a setback in their pursuit of a top-four finish, and they will need to regroup quickly to maintain their position in the upper echelons of the table.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
