About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium in this Premier League encounter. The result, while perhaps not surprising given both teams' mid-table standings, showcased moments of individual brilliance and tactical adjustments from both sides. The match began with Brentford taking an early lead through Michael Kayode (GAP +2.8%) in the 22nd minute. His goal set the tone for a competitive first half. Brentford's Igor Thiago (GAP +2.2%) doubled the lead in the 37th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Wolves. However, Wolverhampton responded just before halftime with a goal from Adam Armstrong (GAP -4.0%) in the 44th minute, keeping them in the contest. The second half saw Wolverhampton Wanderers making strategic changes, including the introduction of Tolu Arokodare, who made an immediate impact by scoring the equalizer in the 77th minute. This goal was crucial in securing a point for the visitors. Brentford's manager made one change to the starting lineup, bringing in Keane Lewis-Potter for the injured Rico Henry. Wolverhampton Wanderers made three changes, with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Hugo Bueno, and Yerson Mosquera coming in for Matt Doherty, Angel Gomes, and David Møller Wolfe. These changes were partly influenced by injuries and suspensions, as confirmed by pre-match reports. In terms of individual performances, Kevin Schade (GAP +3.3%) was particularly influential for Brentford, providing energy and creativity in the attacking third. For Wolves, Jose Sa (GAP +0.5%) made several key saves to keep his team in the game. This draw leaves both teams in the middle of the Premier League table, with Brentford maintaining their position and Wolverhampton Wanderers slightly improving their recent form. Both teams will look to build on this result in their upcoming fixtures as they aim to finish the season strongly.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
