About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a Premier League clash at the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth and Brentford played out a goalless draw, a result that perhaps reflected the cautious approach both teams adopted. The match was characterized by a lack of clear-cut chances, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Bournemouth made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Ryan Christie (GAP +2.8%) and Evanilson (GAP +1.4%), while David Brooks and Eli Junior Kroupi were left out. Brentford, on the other hand, made three changes, with Jordan Henderson (GAP -0.0%), Caoimhín Kelleher (GAP +2.7%), and Nathan Michael Collins (GAP +2.0%) coming into the starting eleven, replacing Kristoffer Ajer, Yehor Yarmolyuk, and Hákon Rafn Valdimarsson. These changes were part of a strategic rotation by both managers, though specific reasons for each change were not disclosed in post-match reports. The game itself was a tactical battle, with both teams struggling to create significant opportunities. Brentford's Kevin Schade (GAP +3.6%) was a standout performer, using his pace and skill to trouble the Bournemouth defense, but ultimately, his efforts did not translate into goals. Bournemouth's Đorđe Petrović (GAP +1.7%) was solid in goal, ensuring his side kept a clean sheet. Despite the lack of goals, the match was not without its moments of tension. Both teams were disciplined, with only a few yellow cards issued, but no red cards to disrupt the flow of the game. This result leaves both teams in a similar position in the league table, with Bournemouth continuing their mid-table stability and Brentford maintaining their push for a top-half finish. The draw might be seen as a missed opportunity for both sides to gain ground, but it also reflects the competitive nature of the Premier League, where every point is hard-earned. Looking ahead, both teams will need to find more attacking impetus if they are to climb the table in the remaining fixtures of the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
