About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at Selhurst Park, Burnley edged out Crystal Palace with a 3-2 victory. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showing moments of brilliance and vulnerability. This result was somewhat surprising given Crystal Palace's home advantage and recent form, but Burnley's resilience and tactical execution paid dividends. The game started with Crystal Palace taking the lead through Jørgen Strand Larsen (GAP -2.1%), who found the net twice in quick succession, scoring in the 17th and 33rd minutes. His performance was a standout for the home side, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. However, Burnley responded emphatically with a goal from Hannibal Mejbri in the 40th minute, followed by Jaidon Anthony's (GAP -2.4%) strike just before halftime in the 44th minute. Jefferson Lerma (GAP +1.4%) then completed the comeback with a decisive goal in the 45th minute, giving Burnley a lead they would not relinquish. Tactically, Crystal Palace made two changes from their previous lineup, bringing in Daichi Kamada and Evann Guessand, while Will Hughes and Yéremy Pino were left out. The reasons for these changes were not specified in post-match reports, suggesting a possible tactical rotation by the manager. Burnley also made two changes, with Joe Worrall and Josh Laurent (GAP -3.0%) coming into the side, replacing Axel Disasi and Florentino Luís. These adjustments seemed to bolster Burnley's defensive solidity and midfield control. Daniel Muñoz (GAP +4.5%) was a key performer for Crystal Palace, contributing significantly to their attacking play, while Chris Richards (GAP +3.1%) was solid defensively despite the team's overall defensive lapses. For Burnley, Martin Dubravka (GAP +1.0%) provided crucial saves that kept Crystal Palace at bay during critical moments of the match. Post-match reactions highlighted Burnley's determination and tactical discipline as key factors in their victory. The win propels Burnley further up the league table, enhancing their chances of a strong finish this season. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace will need to regroup and address their defensive frailties as they look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
