About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Sunderland secured a vital 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in their Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light. This win was a significant boost for Sunderland, who have been striving to climb the league table. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, will be disappointed with the result as they aimed to solidify their mid-table position. The match began with Crystal Palace taking an early lead through Yeremi Pino (GAP -3.0%), who found the net in the 30th minute. However, Sunderland responded swiftly, with Enzo Le Fée (GAP +0.8%) equalizing just three minutes later. The first half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams showing moments of promise. The decisive moment came in the 71st minute when Brian Brobbey (GAP -1.8%) scored the winning goal for Sunderland, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Crystal Palace. This goal proved to be the turning point, as Sunderland managed to hold onto their lead despite Crystal Palace's efforts to find an equalizer. In terms of tactical adjustments, Sunderland's manager made three changes to the starting lineup compared to their previous match. Reinildo Mandava, Romaine Mundle, and Noah Sadiki were brought in, replacing Lutsharel Geertruida, Simon Adingra, and Christopher Rigg. These changes seemed to inject fresh energy into the team, particularly with Enzo Le Fée's impactful performance. Crystal Palace's head coach opted for two changes, introducing Jefferson Lerma and Chris Richards (GAP +4.8%) into the starting eleven, while Marc Guéhi was left out. Despite these adjustments, Palace struggled to maintain their early advantage. Post-match reactions highlighted Sunderland's resilience and tactical discipline, with fans praising the team's ability to bounce back after conceding first. The result leaves Sunderland in a more favorable position as they look to build momentum in the coming fixtures. For Crystal Palace, the defeat is a setback, but they remain in a stable position in the league. The focus will now be on addressing defensive vulnerabilities and converting chances more effectively in future matches.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
