About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City played out a 2-2 draw. The result was a testament to both teams' resilience and attacking prowess, with neither side able to claim the decisive edge. Given Manchester City's status as title contenders, the draw might be seen as a positive outcome for Tottenham, who are dealing with a slew of injuries. The match began with Manchester City taking an early lead through Rayan Cherki in the 11th minute. Cherki's goal set the tone for a dominant first half for City, who doubled their advantage just before halftime with a strike from Antoine Semenyo. Tottenham, however, responded strongly in the second half. Marc Guéhi pulled one back for the hosts in the 53rd minute, injecting life into the game. The comeback was completed when Dominic Solanke found the net in the 70th minute, ensuring the points were shared. Tactically, both managers opted for continuity, with neither making changes to their starting lineups from their previous matches. Tottenham's manager had to navigate a challenging injury list, including key players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. Despite these absences, Tottenham's ability to rally from two goals down highlighted their depth and determination. Manchester City, on the other hand, were without defensive stalwarts like Rúben Dias and John Stones, which perhaps contributed to their inability to hold onto their lead. The City manager's decision to introduce Phil Foden and Omar Marmoush in the second half was a bid to regain control, but Tottenham's spirited performance thwarted their efforts. Post-match, the Tottenham manager expressed satisfaction with the team's fighting spirit, while the City head coach acknowledged the need to tighten their defense. The draw leaves Manchester City in a competitive position in the title race, while Tottenham will take heart from their ability to compete with one of the league's top sides, despite their injury woes. This result keeps Tottenham in the hunt for European places, while Manchester City remains firmly in the title chase, albeit with a reminder of the challenges that lie ahead.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
