About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A encounter, Bologna and Cagliari played out a goalless draw on Sunday, 3 May 2026. The match, part of Gameweek 35, saw both teams struggle to find the back of the net despite several attempts. This result was not entirely unexpected given the evenly matched nature of both sides in recent weeks. The game was characterized by a lack of clear-cut chances, with both defenses holding firm. Bologna's Jhon Lucumí (GAP +3.8%) was particularly impressive at the back, ensuring that Cagliari's forwards found little joy in front of goal. On the other hand, Cagliari's Benjamín Domínguez (GAP +2.6%) showed flashes of creativity but was unable to break the deadlock. Tactically, both teams made several substitutions in an attempt to change the game's dynamics. Bologna introduced Nadir Zortea, Lewis Ferguson, Jonathan Rowe, Santiago Castro, and Riccardo Orsolini from the bench, while Cagliari brought on Ibrahim Sulemana and Gabriele Zappa. These changes, however, did not significantly alter the flow of the match. The home team manager opted for a stable lineup with no changes from their previous match, focusing on maintaining defensive solidity. Cagliari's head coach also kept faith with his starting eleven, making no alterations to the lineup. Post-match reactions highlighted the defensive resilience of both sides. Bologna's manager expressed satisfaction with the clean sheet, while Cagliari's head coach noted the importance of securing a point away from home. This draw leaves Bologna and Cagliari in a similar position in the Serie A standings, with both teams looking to secure mid-table stability as the season draws to a close. With only a few games remaining, both sides will aim to finish the season strongly.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
