About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a commanding Serie A performance, Roma secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Pisa at home, with Donyell Malen (GAP -2.7%) stealing the spotlight by netting a hat-trick. This result was largely anticipated given Roma's superior league position and form, as they continue to push for a strong finish in the top half of the table. The game started with Roma asserting their dominance early on. Donyell Malen opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, setting the tone for the rest of the match. His clinical finishing was on display again just before halftime, as he doubled Roma's lead in the 43rd minute. Malen completed his hat-trick shortly after the break in the 52nd minute, effectively sealing the win for the home side. Roma's lineup featured several key players, including Bryan Cristante (GAP +3.6%) and Evan Ndicka (GAP +4.1%), who both contributed significantly to the team's solid performance. The defensive stability provided by Mile Svilar (GAP +5.3%) in goal ensured that Pisa's attempts to find a way back into the match were thwarted. Pisa, on the other hand, struggled to make an impact. Despite the efforts of players like Matías Soulé (GAP +2.5%), they were unable to break down Roma's defense. The away side's lineup saw no major changes from their previous match, indicating a consistent approach from their head coach. Post-match reactions highlighted Malen's performance as a key factor in Roma's victory. The win keeps Roma in a favorable position as they look to secure European competition for next season. Pisa, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their shortcomings as they aim to improve their standing in the remaining fixtures. Overall, this match underscored Roma's attacking prowess and defensive solidity, while Pisa will need to find solutions to their current form struggles.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
