About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a surprising turn of events in Serie A, Udinese stunned AC Milan with a commanding 3-0 victory at the San Siro on Saturday. This result was unexpected, given AC Milan's strong home form and their position as favorites going into the match. However, Udinese executed their game plan to perfection, capitalizing on key moments to secure a vital win. The match began with both teams probing for weaknesses, but it was Udinese who struck first. Davide Bartesaghi (GAP +0.8%) opened the scoring in the 27th minute, setting the tone for the visitors. AC Milan struggled to respond effectively, and their attempts were thwarted by a disciplined Udinese defense. As the game progressed, Udinese continued to exploit AC Milan's vulnerabilities. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp (GAP +1.0%) doubled the lead in the 37th minute, further dampening the home side's spirits. Despite AC Milan's efforts to regroup and push forward, they were unable to break through Udinese's solid defensive setup. The final blow came in the 71st minute when Arthur Atta (GAP -2.2%) sealed the victory with a third goal, leaving AC Milan with no chance of a comeback. This comprehensive performance by Udinese was a testament to their tactical discipline and clinical finishing. From a tactical perspective, AC Milan's manager made several changes during the match, bringing in Ardon Jashari, Christopher Nkunku, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Youssouf Fofana, and Niclas Fullkrug from the bench. However, these substitutions failed to alter the course of the game significantly. Udinese's head coach also made strategic substitutions, introducing Jakub Piotrowski, Idrissa Gueye, Lennon Miller, and Oier Zarraga to maintain their momentum and secure the clean sheet. This result has significant implications for both teams. For AC Milan, the defeat is a setback in their pursuit of a top-four finish, while Udinese's victory boosts their confidence and league standing as they look to climb the table in the remaining fixtures of the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
