Game Review
In a thrilling Serie A encounter, Sassuolo edged out Atalanta with a 2-1 victory on Sunday, 1 March 2026. The match, held at Sassuolo's home ground, saw the hosts overcome a challenging situation after being reduced to ten men early in the game. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Sassuolo's resilience and tactical discipline allowed them to secure a crucial win. The game began with Sassuolo taking the lead in the 23rd minute through Ismaël Koné (GAP +1.9%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Atalanta. However, the match took a dramatic turn in the 16th minute when Andrea Pinamonti (GAP +1.2%) received a red card, leaving Sassuolo to play the majority of the match with ten players. Despite this setback, Sassuolo doubled their lead in the 69th minute with a goal from Kristian Thorstvedt (GAP +0.3%), showcasing their ability to adapt and exploit Atalanta's vulnerabilities. Atalanta, who were expected to capitalize on their numerical advantage, struggled to break down a well-organized Sassuolo defense. Their efforts were finally rewarded in the 88th minute when substitute Yunus Musah scored, but it was too little too late for the visitors. Tactically, Sassuolo's manager made no changes to the starting lineup compared to their previous match, while Atalanta's head coach also maintained the same starting eleven. The standout performances came from Sassuolo's Domenico Berardi (GAP +3.3%) and goalkeeper Arijanet Murić (GAP -0.9%), who made several crucial saves to keep Atalanta at bay. This result sees Sassuolo gaining momentum as they continue to climb the Serie A table, while Atalanta will need to reassess their strategies to avoid further slip-ups. The victory not only boosts Sassuolo's confidence but also highlights their ability to perform under pressure, a trait that will be crucial as the season progresses.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
