About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Serie A encounter, Roma and Juventus played out a 3-3 draw at the Stadio Olimpico, a result that reflected the attacking prowess and defensive vulnerabilities of both sides. The match was a rollercoaster, with momentum swinging back and forth, ultimately ending in a draw that seemed fair given the balance of play. Roma took the lead in the 39th minute through Wesley França (GAP +4.3%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Juventus. The home side extended their lead early in the second half when Evan Ndicka (GAP +4.7%) found the back of the net in the 54th minute. However, Juventus quickly responded with Francisco Conceição (GAP -0.3%) scoring in the 47th minute, narrowing the deficit. Donyell Malen (GAP +4.9%) restored Roma's two-goal advantage in the 65th minute, but Juventus showed resilience. Jeremie Boga (GAP not listed) came off the bench to score in the 78th minute, setting up a tense finale. Federico Gatti (GAP not listed), another substitute, completed the comeback for Juventus with a dramatic equalizer in the 90th minute. Tactically, both teams made significant changes. Roma's manager opted for a consistent lineup, while Juventus introduced five substitutes, including impactful performances from Boga and Gatti. The Game Advantage Percentage highlights the contributions of players like Bryan Cristante (GAP +3.6%) and Gianluca Mancini (GAP +5.5%) for Roma, and Mattia Perin (GAP +2.9%) and Weston McKennie (GAP +2.9%) for Juventus, who were pivotal in their respective roles. This result leaves both teams reflecting on missed opportunities. Roma, who were in a strong position to secure all three points, will be disappointed to have let their lead slip. Juventus, on the other hand, will take heart from their fighting spirit and ability to salvage a point from a challenging situation. In terms of league implications, the draw does little to change the standings significantly but highlights the competitive nature of Serie A this season. Both teams will need to tighten their defenses as they look to secure European qualification spots in the remaining fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
