About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A encounter, Bologna edged past Udinese with a 1-0 victory, courtesy of a late goal from Federico Bernardeschi. The match, played on Monday, 23 February 2026, saw Bologna secure three crucial points, a result that might not have been entirely unexpected given their home advantage. The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when substitute Federico Bernardeschi found the back of the net, breaking the deadlock and ensuring Bologna's victory. Bernardeschi's introduction was a tactical masterstroke, as his fresh legs and attacking prowess provided the necessary spark in a game that had been largely even up to that point. Bologna's Lukasz Skorupski (GAP +3.7%) was instrumental in maintaining the clean sheet, making several key saves that kept Udinese at bay. His performance was crucial, especially considering the narrow margin of victory. On the defensive front, Juan Miranda (GAP +2.8%) also stood out, contributing significantly to Bologna's solid defensive display. Udinese, despite their efforts, struggled to break down Bologna's defense. Christian Kabasele (GAP -0.8%) and his defensive partners were kept busy throughout the match, but ultimately, they could not prevent Bernardeschi's decisive strike. In terms of lineup changes, Bologna's manager made five substitutions, bringing in Nadir Zortea, Federico Bernardeschi, Nikola Moro, Nicolò Cambiaghi, and Thijs Dallinga. These changes injected fresh energy into the team, particularly Bernardeschi, whose goal was the match-winner. Udinese also made four substitutions, introducing Idrissa Gueye, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, Oier Zarraga, and Nicolò Bertola, but these changes failed to alter the outcome. This victory sees Bologna potentially climbing the Serie A table, depending on other results, and provides a boost in confidence as they look to build momentum. For Udinese, this defeat might prompt a reassessment of their strategies as they aim to improve their standing in the league. Overall, Bologna's tactical adjustments and key performances, particularly from Bernardeschi and Skorupski, were pivotal in securing this hard-fought win.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
