About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Serie A encounter, Atalanta secured a 2-1 victory over Napoli at home, a result that might have surprised some given Napoli's strong form this season. The match, part of Gameweek 26, saw Atalanta come from behind to claim all three points. The game began with Napoli taking the lead in the 18th minute through Sam Beukema, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the visitors ahead. Atalanta, however, responded with resilience and determination. The equalizer came in the 61st minute when Mario Pasalic found the back of the net, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. The decisive moment arrived in the 81st minute when substitute Lazar Samardžić, who had been brought on to inject fresh energy into the Atalanta attack, scored the winning goal. His impact off the bench was crucial, showcasing the depth and tactical flexibility of the Atalanta squad. Both teams made several changes to their lineups. Atalanta's manager opted for a fresh approach, bringing in Honest Ahanor, Lorenzo Bernasconi, Lazar Samardžić, Berat Djimsiti, and Gianluca Scamacca during the match. Napoli's head coach also made tactical adjustments, introducing Mathías Olivera, Leonardo Spinazzola, Matteo Politano, and Giovane in an attempt to regain control. This victory is significant for Atalanta as it boosts their position in the league standings, providing them with much-needed momentum as they aim to climb higher. For Napoli, the defeat is a setback, but given their overall strong performance this season, they remain in a competitive position. Post-match reactions highlighted the tactical battle between the two sides, with Atalanta's substitutions proving to be the difference. The result underscores the unpredictable nature of Serie A this season, where any team can challenge the top contenders on their day.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
