About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Serie A encounter, Napoli edged past Genoa with a 3-2 victory, a result that aligns with their strong form this season. The match, held on Saturday, 7 February 2026, saw Napoli continue their pursuit of the top spots in the league, while Genoa's struggles persisted. The game started with a bang as Ruslan Malinovskyi (GAP +0.3%) put Genoa ahead in the 3rd minute. However, Napoli quickly responded with a goal from Rasmus Højlund (GAP +0.1%) in the 20th minute, followed by Scott McTominay (GAP -0.6%) scoring just two minutes later to give Napoli the lead. The first half ended with Napoli in control, but Genoa showed resilience. Genoa equalized in the 57th minute through Lorenzo Colombo (GAP -2.0%), setting the stage for a tense final half-hour. The turning point came in the 76th minute when Juan Jesus (GAP +3.1%) received a red card, leaving Napoli with ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Napoli's Rasmus Højlund scored his second goal in the 90th minute, securing the win for the visitors. Tactically, Napoli's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's ability to deliver. Genoa, on the other hand, also fielded an unchanged lineup, reflecting a desire for stability amid a challenging season. Amir Rrahmani (GAP +7.4%) was instrumental in Napoli's defense, contributing significantly to their ability to withstand Genoa's attacks, especially after going a man down. Alex Meret (GAP +4.6%) also played a crucial role with key saves that kept Napoli in the game. This victory keeps Napoli firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish, bolstering their position in the league table. For Genoa, the loss highlights the need for improvement as they continue to hover near the relegation zone. The result underscores Napoli's resilience and ability to secure crucial points even under pressure.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
