About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a Serie A clash on Saturday, Sassuolo secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Pisa, a result that was largely expected given the teams' contrasting forms. Sassuolo, who have been in solid form recently, demonstrated their attacking prowess with a dominant performance. The match began with Sassuolo taking control early on. Domenico Berardi (GAP +2.1%) opened the scoring in the 25th minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Pisa struggled to find their rhythm, and their defensive frailties were exposed again just before halftime when Antonio Caracciolo (GAP -0.8%) inadvertently scored an own goal, doubling Sassuolo's lead. Pisa attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, and Michel Aebischer (GAP +0.5%) gave them a glimmer of hope with a well-taken goal in the 51st minute. However, Sassuolo quickly extinguished any hopes of a Pisa revival when Ismaël Koné (GAP +0.7%) restored their two-goal cushion with a strike in the 58th minute. Tactically, Sassuolo's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, maintaining a consistent approach that has served them well. Pisa, on the other hand, also fielded an unchanged lineup, but their lack of defensive solidity was evident throughout the match. The standout performances came from Sassuolo's attacking players, with Berardi and Koné playing pivotal roles in securing the victory. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics highlighted Berardi's influence on the game, as his contributions were crucial in breaking down Pisa's defense. This victory solidifies Sassuolo's position in the upper half of the Serie A table, while Pisa will need to regroup and address their defensive issues to avoid slipping further down the standings. The result reflects the current form of both teams, with Sassuolo continuing their upward trajectory and Pisa facing challenges in their campaign.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
