About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Serie A encounter, Genoa edged past Bologna with a 3-2 victory on Sunday, January 25, 2026. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Genoa ultimately capitalizing on a numerical advantage following a red card to Bologna's goalkeeper, Lukasz Skorupski (GAP +4.5%). The game started with Bologna taking the lead in the 35th minute through Lewis Ferguson (GAP +2.7%), who found the net with a well-placed shot. Bologna doubled their advantage shortly after the break, with Sebastian Otoa scoring in the 47th minute. However, the turning point came in the 57th minute when Skorupski was sent off, leaving Bologna to play with ten men. Genoa seized the opportunity, and Ruslan Malinovskyi (GAP -1.2%) pulled one back in the 62nd minute. Caleb Ekuban, coming off the bench, leveled the score in the 78th minute. The decisive moment came in the 90th minute when another substitute, Junior Messias, scored the winner, completing Genoa's comeback. Tactically, Genoa's manager made five changes, introducing Junior Messias, Maxwel Cornet, Caleb Ekuban, Nils Zätterström, and Ruslan Malinovskyi, which proved pivotal in turning the game around. Bologna's head coach also made four substitutions, bringing in Thijs Dallinga, Simon Sohm, Martin Vitík, and Federico Ravaglia, but the red card left them vulnerable. This result is significant for Genoa, who have been struggling in recent matches. The victory provides a much-needed boost in confidence and helps them climb the Serie A table. For Bologna, the defeat is a setback, especially after leading by two goals. They will need to regroup and address the defensive lapses that cost them dearly. Post-match reactions highlighted the impact of the red card, with Genoa's players praising their resilience and ability to capitalize on the man advantage. Bologna's camp expressed disappointment but vowed to bounce back in their next fixture.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
