About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Real Betis and Rayo Vallecano played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday, 21 February 2026. The match, part of Gameweek 25, saw both teams share the spoils in a game that was reflective of their current standings and form. Real Betis took the lead early in the 16th minute through Cédric Bakambu, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the hosts ahead. However, Rayo Vallecano responded just before halftime with a well-taken goal by Isi Palazón (GAP -0.7%) in the 42nd minute, ensuring the teams went into the break on level terms. The match was characterized by a balanced battle in midfield, with both teams having their moments of dominance. Real Betis, with players like Antony (GAP +2.9%) and Marc Roca (GAP +1.3%), tried to assert control, but Rayo Vallecano's defensive resilience, led by Florian Lejeune (GAP +0.5%), kept them at bay. In terms of lineup changes, Real Betis made several substitutions, bringing on Valentín Gómez, Rodrigo Riquelme, Ángel Ortiz, Nelson Deossa, and Cucho Hernández. These changes were likely tactical as there was no specific injury or suspension information available. Rayo Vallecano also rotated their squad, introducing Pathé Ciss, Pedro Díaz, Pep Chavarría, Randy Nteka, and Alvaro Garcia to maintain their energy levels throughout the match. The result leaves both teams in a similar position in the league table, with Real Betis continuing their mid-table form and Rayo Vallecano maintaining their position just above the relegation zone. This draw reflects the competitive nature of La Liga this season, where every point is crucial. Post-match reactions highlighted the satisfaction of both teams in securing a point, with Real Betis looking to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures. The draw serves as a reminder of the tight margins in La Liga, where even the smallest mistake can be costly.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
