About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Rayo Vallecano and Levante played out a 1-1 draw on Monday, 16 March 2026. The match saw both teams share the spoils, with Rayo Vallecano managing to salvage a point despite being reduced to ten men early in the second half. The game began with Levante taking the lead in the 41st minute through Carlos Espí, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to put his team ahead. This goal came just after Rayo's Jorge de Frutos (GAP +2.0%) received a yellow card, adding to the tension on the pitch. The turning point of the match occurred in the 53rd minute when Nobel Mendy (GAP -0.5%) of Rayo Vallecano was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. This left Rayo with a numerical disadvantage for the remainder of the match. Despite this setback, Rayo Vallecano showed resilience and managed to equalize in the 90th minute through substitute Pathé Ciss, who found the back of the net to ensure his team earned a valuable point. Tactically, Rayo Vallecano's manager made five changes during the match, bringing on Alvaro Garcia, Isi Palazón, Pathé Ciss, Ilias Akhomach, and Andrei Rațiu. These substitutions were crucial in maintaining the team's attacking threat despite being a man down. Levante's head coach also made four substitutions, introducing Jose Luis Morales, Ugo Raghouber, Kervin Arriaga, and Etta Eyong to refresh the squad. In terms of individual performances, Jorge de Frutos stood out for Rayo Vallecano, contributing significantly to their attacking play. For Levante, Jeremy Toljan (GAP +0.1%) and Mathew Ryan (GAP -0.5%) were key figures in defense, helping to withstand Rayo's late pressure. This result leaves Rayo Vallecano and Levante both reflecting on missed opportunities to climb the La Liga table. Rayo Vallecano will be pleased with their fighting spirit, while Levante will rue not capitalizing on their numerical advantage. As the season progresses, both teams will need to find consistency to improve their standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
