About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Mallorca edged out Espanyol with a 2-1 victory on Sunday, 15 March 2026. This result was somewhat expected given Mallorca's recent form and home advantage, although Espanyol's resilience made it a challenging affair. The match began with Espanyol taking an early lead through Charles Pickel (GAP -0.7%) in the 36th minute. However, Pickel's subsequent red card in the 54th minute proved to be a turning point, tilting the game in Mallorca's favor. With Espanyol down to ten men, Mallorca capitalized on their numerical advantage. Pablo Torre (GAP +0.1%) equalized in the 65th minute, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Mallorca's persistence paid off when Samú Costa (GAP -1.4%) scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute, securing all three points for the home side. Costa's late strike was a testament to Mallorca's relentless pressure and tactical adjustments following the red card. Tactically, Mallorca's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's ability to deliver. Espanyol, on the other hand, also fielded an unchanged lineup, but the dismissal of Pickel forced them to adapt defensively, which ultimately proved challenging. Key performances included Vedat Muriqi (GAP +0.6%), who was instrumental in maintaining pressure on Espanyol's defense, and Pablo Torre, whose goal was crucial in shifting the momentum. This victory sees Mallorca solidifying their mid-table position, while Espanyol's struggles continue as they seek to avoid slipping further down the standings. The result highlights Mallorca's growing confidence and ability to capitalize on opponents' mistakes, a trait that could serve them well in the remaining fixtures of the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
