About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Girona delivered a commanding performance in their La Liga clash against Athletic Bilbao, securing a 3-0 victory at home. This result was somewhat unexpected given Athletic Bilbao's recent form, but Girona capitalized on their chances effectively. The match began with an early goal from Hugo Rincón, who found the back of the net in the 4th minute, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Girona maintained their momentum throughout, with Azzedine Ounahi (GAP +4.9%) doubling their lead in the 77th minute. The final blow came in stoppage time when substitute Claudio Echeverri scored in the 90th minute, sealing a comprehensive win for the hosts. Tactically, Girona's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating a strong belief in the current squad's capabilities. Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, made several substitutions during the game, bringing on Urko Izeta, Nico Serrano, Jesús Areso, Gorka Guruzeta, and Mikel Vesga, but these changes were unable to alter the course of the match. Key performances included Azzedine Ounahi, whose goal and overall play were instrumental in Girona's midfield dominance. Paulo Gazzaniga (GAP +0.8%) also played a crucial role in goal, ensuring a clean sheet with several important saves. For Athletic Bilbao, Aymeric Laporte (GAP -2.1%) and Alejandro Francés (GAP -3.4%) struggled to contain Girona's attacking threats, which was reflected in their negative GAP scores. This victory boosts Girona's confidence as they look to climb the La Liga table, while Athletic Bilbao will need to regroup and address their defensive frailties to avoid slipping further down the standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
