About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo in their La Liga clash on Friday, 6 March 2026. The match, held at Celta's home ground, saw Real Madrid come out on top thanks to a late winner from Federico Valverde (GAP +6.6%). This result was largely expected, given Real Madrid's superior form and league position compared to Celta Vigo. The game started with Real Madrid asserting their dominance early on. Aurelien Tchouameni (GAP +5.3%) opened the scoring in the 11th minute, setting the tone for the visitors. However, Celta Vigo responded well, with Borja Iglesias (GAP -0.4%) leveling the score in the 25th minute, ensuring the first half ended on an even footing. As the match progressed, both teams had their chances, but it was Real Madrid who capitalized in the dying moments. Federico Valverde's decisive goal in the 90th minute sealed the victory for the visitors, showcasing his knack for crucial contributions. In terms of tactical adjustments, Real Madrid's head coach made three changes during the match, bringing in Gonzalo García, César Palacios Pérez, and Manuel Ángel. These substitutions were part of a strategic rotation, although specific reasons for these changes were not disclosed in post-match reports. Celta Vigo also made five substitutions, including the introduction of experienced forward Iago Aspas, but they were unable to find the breakthrough needed to alter the outcome. From a tactical perspective, Trent Alexander-Arnold (GAP +7.7%) was instrumental for Real Madrid, providing width and creativity from the right flank. His performance, along with that of Antonio Rudiger (GAP +7.0%) in defense, was crucial in maintaining Real Madrid's structure and resilience. This victory helps Real Madrid maintain their momentum in the league, keeping them in the hunt for the top positions. For Celta Vigo, the defeat leaves them needing to regroup as they aim to improve their standing in the league. Overall, the match highlighted Real Madrid's ability to grind out results even when not at their best, a trait that could prove vital in the title race.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
