About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a La Liga clash that ended in a goalless draw, Elche and Osasuna shared the spoils in a match that lacked the cutting edge to break the deadlock. Both teams came into this fixture with contrasting expectations, as Osasuna were slightly favored due to their higher league standing and recent form. The match unfolded with few clear-cut chances, as both defenses held firm. Osasuna's Javi Galán (GAP +3.4%) was particularly effective in his defensive duties, contributing significantly to keeping Elche at bay. Meanwhile, Elche's Tete Morente (GAP -4.8%) struggled to make an impact, reflecting in his negative Game Advantage Percentage. Osasuna's manager made several changes during the match, bringing in Asier Osambela, Abel Bretones, Raúl García, Jon Moncayola, and Raul Moro from the bench. These substitutions were part of a tactical adjustment to inject fresh energy into the side, though they ultimately did not alter the scoreline. Elche also made changes, introducing Rafa Mir, Yago Santiago, and John Donald, but these moves did not provide the breakthrough they needed. The Game Advantage Percentage data highlights Ruben Garcia (GAP +2.8%) and Ante Budimir (GAP +2.1%) as key players for Osasuna, though their efforts did not translate into goals. For Elche, Pedro Bigas (GAP +1.9%) was a standout performer, helping to maintain a solid defensive structure. This result leaves both teams reflecting on missed opportunities. Osasuna will be slightly disappointed not to have capitalized on their recent good form, while Elche will take solace in a clean sheet against a higher-ranked opponent. As the league progresses, both teams will need to find more attacking impetus to climb the table and achieve their respective season goals.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
