About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling La Liga encounter, Real Betis edged out Valencia with a 2-1 victory at home. The match, part of Gameweek 22, saw Real Betis secure a late win thanks to Pablo Fornals' decisive goal in the 88th minute. This result was somewhat expected given Real Betis' recent form and home advantage. The game began with a quick exchange of goals. Valencia took an early lead in the 20th minute through Luis Rioja, who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Betis. However, Real Betis responded swiftly, with Chimy Ávila leveling the score just three minutes later, setting the stage for a competitive match. The second half was a tactical battle, with both teams making several substitutions to gain an edge. Real Betis introduced Valentín Gómez, Ángel Ortiz, Pablo García, and Pablo Fornals, while Valencia brought on Diego López, Umar Sadiq, Baptiste Santamaria, César Tárrega Requeni, and André Almeida. These changes added fresh legs and tactical adjustments, but it was Fornals who made the critical impact, scoring the winning goal just two minutes before full time. Real Betis' manager made four changes to the lineup, bringing in fresh faces to maintain the team's momentum. Valencia's head coach also opted for five changes, possibly to address tactical needs or manage player fatigue. This victory solidifies Real Betis' position in the upper half of the table, continuing their positive run with another crucial three points. For Valencia, the defeat marks a setback as they aim to climb the standings, highlighting the need for improved defensive solidity in future matches. Post-match reactions focused on Fornals' impact off the bench, with fans and analysts praising his decisive contribution. The result leaves Real Betis in a strong position to challenge for European spots, while Valencia will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities to improve their league standing.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
