About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Girona and Getafe played out a 1-1 draw on Monday, 26 January 2026. The match, held as part of Gameweek 21, saw both teams share the spoils in a game that was largely expected to be evenly matched given their similar standings in the league. The game remained goalless in the first half, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, the deadlock was broken in the 59th minute when Luis Vázquez put Getafe ahead, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Girona. This goal seemed to spur Girona into action, and they pushed forward in search of an equalizer. Girona's persistence paid off in the dying moments of the match. Vitor Reis (GAP -1.9%) emerged as the hero for the home side, scoring a crucial equalizer in the 90th minute to salvage a point. This late goal was a testament to Girona's resilience and determination to avoid defeat. Tactically, both teams made minimal changes to their lineups. Girona's manager opted for continuity, while Getafe made a single substitution, bringing on Sebastián Boselli. The match saw a disciplined performance from both sides, with no red cards issued. From a statistical perspective, Marc-Andre ter Stegen (GAP +7.0%) was instrumental for Girona, making several key saves to keep his team in the game. On the other hand, David Soria (GAP -0.2%) in Getafe's goal had a relatively quiet evening until the late equalizer. This result leaves both teams in a similar position in the league table, with Girona and Getafe continuing their mid-table campaigns. The draw reflects their recent form, with both teams having shown inconsistency in their last few matches. As the season progresses, both sides will be eager to find more consistency to climb the La Liga standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
