About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling La Liga encounter on Saturday, Osasuna edged out Real Oviedo with a 3-2 victory. The match, held as part of Gameweek 20, saw Osasuna capitalize on their home advantage, though the result was not entirely unexpected given their recent form. The game started with both teams showing attacking intent, but it was Real Oviedo who struck first. Federico Viñas (GAP +0.9%) opened the scoring in the 40th minute, giving the visitors a brief lead. However, Osasuna responded swiftly with Ante Budimir (GAP +3.1%) equalizing just before halftime in the 45th minute. The second half continued with high intensity. Alberto Reina brought Real Oviedo back into contention with a goal in the 68th minute, leveling the score at 2-2. Yet, it was Budimir again who proved decisive, scoring his second goal in the 75th minute to put Osasuna ahead. The match was sealed in dramatic fashion when Víctor Muñoz (GAP +0.9%) scored in the 90th minute, ensuring the home side took all three points. A significant moment came late in the game when Alejandro Catena (GAP +1.7%) received a red card in the 90th minute, leaving Osasuna to finish the match with ten men. Despite this, they managed to hold on for the win. Tactically, Osasuna's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's ability to deliver. In contrast, Real Oviedo's head coach made several changes, bringing in Nicolás Fonseca, Luka Ilić, Thiago Borbas Silva, and Leander Dendoncker as substitutes, though the reasons for these changes were not specified in available reports. This victory helps Osasuna maintain their momentum in the league, while Real Oviedo will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities. The result leaves Osasuna in a strong position as they continue their campaign, while Real Oviedo will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
